Norma Kamali is the renowned American designer to conceive the legendary sleeping bag-inspired coat, which has bred generations of puffer jackets. Whether it is an upscale Burberry or everyday Old Navy, these jackets have become a staple winter item for hip hop starlets and cold-weather urbanites. Many myths have surrounded this iconic jacket – Norma Kamali supposedly slept in a sleeping bag after her divorce – but myths are meant to be exposed.
Kamali reveals that the concept of the sleeping-bag jacket came from a very simple story. While camping with a boyfriend in the mid-1970s, she found herself getting up in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom. It was so cold; she threw on her sleeping bag and bolted for a nearby bush. “As I was running,” she said, “I was thinking, ‘I need to put sleeves in this thing.’” (Quote from New York Times article, Always in Her Element)…

Some wouldn’t know it – because of the large fashion lines that still don’t get it, but for many years there have been eco trendsetters in the fashion industry. These designers understand that it is imperative to be fashion-forward while making less impact on earth.
The Good Society is one of my favorite socially and ecologically sustainable fashion labels. Their denim isn’t just easy on the wallet, it’s also made from 100% organic textiles that are fairly traded. The Good Society denim is fit to please!
Being chic doesn’t mean the world has to go bleak! And that’s a good thing to know because I just can’t get enough of these jeans. Like a glove!

Vegan Shoes from Olsen Haus
Published: Everywun’s Daily Good Newsletter
Women can walk a little bit taller (about four inches), knowing that their stylish shoes may look HOT… but aren’t contributing to our earth getting any hotter! Olsenhaus creates a collection of vegan footwear that could rival – do I dare say – Christian Louboutin, himself?
Shoes can literally destroy lives and ecosystems during their journey to your feet. In the US alone, 350 million pairs of shoes a year are produced using environmentally destructive materials like toxic dyes, synthetics, glues, petroleum-based rubber and chemically treated leathers. All of this results in millions of pounds of waste and poison!
Unlike other designers, who create special eco-conscious lines to capitalize on the green trend, Elizabeth Olsen is committed to keeping her shoes 100% vegan and influencing others in fashion to do the same. Her influence stretches far since she’s a member of PETA, the Humane Society, as well as Greenpeace.
